I began my fitness journey with Sunshine’s Fitness Studio, initially dragged to a Zumba class by one of my employees. I had tried Zumba before but never enjoyed it as much. This class was different. From the moment I walked through the door, I felt welcomed. Sunshine herself came to the back where I was standing, introduced herself, and made sure I felt included. After class, she checked in to see how I enjoyed it. Her energy, music selection, and teaching style had me hooked immediately. What stood out was how she explained each move, offering modifications for different fitness levels.
At the time, I couldn’t even do the beginner level, but with her encouragement, I gradually moved closer to the front of the class. Along the way, I met amazing people who quickly became part of my support system. From there, I began adding more classes and eventually signed up for personal training. This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with any type of fitness routine, and I believe it’s because I don’t see it as exercise—it’s like having fun with friends.
Over the past 10 years, I’ve lost 40 pounds and 58 inches, becoming healthier than ever. But the best part has been the support of my fitness “tribe.” None of this would have been possible without them. It’s a journey filled with fun, laughter, and meaningful connections.
I started attending Sunshine’s Zumba class in 2013, about six weeks after beginning my Weight Watchers journey. I knew I needed to add activity to support my weight loss, and as someone who loves to dance, I searched for the “right” Zumba class—and I found it with Sunshine.
About a month later, I decided to try personal training, something I never thought I’d do. It was a big, intimidating step, and I still remember exactly how I felt during that first session. It wasn’t scary at all. What started as a fitness routine soon became so much more. Sunshine’s Fitness Studio evolved into a grounding place for my mental health. No matter what’s happening in my life, I know I can walk through those doors and find a sense of calm. For those 50 minutes, the day’s worries melt away, which has become as essential to me as the workout itself.

My journey with Sunshine’s Fitness Studio began in April 2016, when a friend invited me to join her for a Zumba class. A month later, we decided to take on personal training together. I immediately loved the Zumba classes, not only for the workouts but for the strong sense of community they fostered. They allowed me to connect with like-minded people, build friendships, and enjoy the motivation that comes from shared fitness goals.
As I continued my journey, I appreciated how the studio offered a variety of classes, with instructors tailoring exercises for every fitness level. Whether you’re just starting out or more advanced, there’s a place for you here. Personal training gave me the accountability and personalized support I needed to stay on track. The sessions were both challenging and enjoyable, with a mix of activities to keep things fresh.
Over the years, I’ve lost 61 pounds, maintaining my progress with only a 10-pound fluctuation. For me, fitness isn’t about competing with others—it’s about becoming a better version of myself.
If you don’t think a GREAT trainer can make a difference, I’m living proof that you’d be wrong! In 2014, I was at my heaviest since college. Unbeknownst to me, I had four blood clots in my leg, and one piece broke off, traveling to my lung. After recovery, I faced additional health challenges. Bloodwork showed I was pre-diabetic, and my doctors recommended physical activity to help bring down my A1C. I told them not to worry—I knew the perfect person. That’s when I started working with Sunshine.
My first training session was in February 2016, and by May of that year, I completed my first 5K, the Bangor Color Run. By Thanksgiving, I had done my tenth! By May 2017, my A1C was back in the normal range. The transformation in just a few months was remarkable. Sunshine “gets” me; there’s no yelling, shaming, or guilt—just unwavering support, guidance, and genuine celebration of each accomplishment. It’s the best investment I’ve ever made in myself.
Over the past eight years, Sunshine and I have become inseparable. We’ve worked on community events together, and while I share my expertise in marketing and tech with her, she keeps me grounded and helps me maintain my 125-pound weight loss.
